ACL's Food Court Keeps the Crowds Nourished and the Good Times Rolling
by Claudia Alarcón
Jon Notarthomas, beloved purveyor of grilled sausage sandwiches, and his amazing staff know how to turn a mere grilled sausage into a work of art. Pick your choice of four locally made, freshly grilled sausages – smoked Italian, Texas jalapeño, all-beef country sausage, and bratwurst – and the Best Wurst serves it to you on a roll with fresh-cut grilled onions and hot sauerkraut, dressed with homemade brown mustard and/or curry ketchup. Don't miss the New York buttered salt potatoes, boiled in a mild salt brine, served whole with melted butter and chopped green onions and sprinkled with spicy seasoning.

ACL's Food Court Continues to Expand Its – and Our – Horizons
by Claudia Alarcón
Known as "the most efficient kitchen in Austin," the Best Wurst is hands down the best purveyor of grilled-sausage sandwiches the streets of Austin have ever seen. Your choice of four locally made grilled sausages – smoked Italian, Texas jalapeño, all-beef country sausage, and bratwurst – will be served on a roll with fresh-cut grilled onions and hot sauerkraut. You can dress them with homemade brown mustard and/or curry ketchup. Introduced last year by owner Jon Notarthomas, the buttered New York salt-potatoes – Yukon gold new potatoes boiled in a mild salt brine, served whole with melted butter, chopped green onions, and a spicy seasoning – will be featured again as a side dish.

Trailers (No Trash)
Depending on how the wind is blowing, you can usually smell Best Wurst before you see it, and "see it" is a misnomer; you usually see the line in front of it long before you get an actual glimpse...

Edible Endeavors: Meal Deals on Wheels
By Claudia Alarcón
“Considering our area’s long-standing German roots, German street food seemed inevitable, and now it’s here. For great nighttime eats downtown or at family-friendly events such as the Pecan Street Festival, you just can’t beat Best Wurst. I don’t frequent the 6th Street area often, but when I do, it is de rigueur to have at least one of their grilled sausages, with all the trimmings...

XL Cover Story: 50 Great Party Bars
By Jeff McCrary
OK, so this sausage vendor doesn't sell Budweiser. But it does sell the best late-night munchies on Sixth Street. When last call is history and the bouncers have shoved you out the door, the mouth-watering aroma acts as both appetite enhancer and a beacon for an after-after-party. The line stretches all the way to New York, the source of inspiration for this business, but many stand in line for the simple pleasure of an intoxicated parley.

Austinist Recommends: SXSW Chow Down
This is one of those cart-grill-meat hybrids. We may have been wasted every time we ate there, Best Wurst has never let us down.

Disclaimer: In no way are the following observations and suggestions a true reflection of the way SXSW actually works for an attendee. I generally live off PBR, Jager and Best Wurst for the entirety of the music portion of the event; so pardon me if my memory and perception is not completely accurate.

A Food Writer's Favorites From ACL Fest
By Claudia Alarcón
The Austin City Limits Music Festival food court gets better every year. Although at times it was too hot to eat (I almost passed out watching Steve Earle), vendors consistently saw long lines of hungry fans. The Best Wurst and Hudson's on the Bend always seemed to be crowded. Snow cones were everywhere. I hope all vendors had a fun and profitable weekend – they worked their tails off. Thanks, folks!

Full Plate

Strolling the Sixth Street Entertainment District: Getting points here is a no-brainer. Everybody knows, and everybody goes. However, the wisest travelers will point out that the best burgers are to be found at Casino el Camino (517 E. Sixth, 469-9330) and more recently at the Jackalope (404 E. Sixth, 469-5801). The French bistro fare at Chez Nous (510 Neches, 473-2413) is both authentic and delightful, and the most reliable street food can be purchased from a vendor called the Best Wurst.

ACL hits a sour note with its beer lineup
By Ronnie Crocker
...They're loud and proud about the local restaurants in the diverse and reasonably priced "Austin Eats" food court. "No turkey legs," says one ad. And why would you opt for one of those anyway, when you can choose from the likes of The Best Wurst, Stubb's Bar-B-Que or Amy's Ice Cream?

Nothing beats concluding a night out on 6th with a Best Wurst bratwurst fully loaded with extra ketchup and sauerkraut...
I know Chicago is known for having the best hot dogs and what not, and even after trying a bunch of different places up here, I would still prefer a bratwurst from Best Wurst on 6th street...
Everyone from Austin will tell you this place is the bomb. Guaranteed lines from 2-3am filled with drunken folks with the munchies. If you are impatient, hit the place up before 2am in between bars.

This little food cart stand is located on 6th street and might be easily missed if you're not looking. The hotdogs here are great and decently priced. On my last visit I tried the Bratwurst with grilled onions and curry ketchup. Can't wait to try the others (Spicy Jalapeno, Italian) next time I'm chillin on 6th. Austin, yayy!
A few side notes: At around 1:45am and after is when this place gets really packed since everything starts shutting down, come early or be prepared to stand in line.

It just wouldn't be SxSW without Best Wurst.
I get the stuff once, maybe twice a year, and hoo-boy is the wait ever always worth it.
Just need to get downtown, get a smoked jalapeno with everything and I'm ready to have my eardrums blown out.

Juicy sausages, quick service - no fuss street food. I loved the curry ketchup. I hope I stumble on this cart many more times when the late night hunger strikes.
